Custody and Separation Mediation
I work with parents to solidify their parenting goals and find common ground based on their children's needs. Typically I have individual sessions with each parent before the three of us meet virtually to discuss my recommendations. This type of support works best for parents who can be in the same virtual space and are willing to prioritize their children. Depending on what point you are at in the separation process we can also discuss how to talk to your children about the separation and prepare yourselves individually for the transitions. I also have experience with Nesting and what the pros and cons of that type of set up could be.
How is this different than "regular" meditation?
Most custody arrangements are created by lawyers or mediators with no background in child development, parenting, or your families unique needs. Mediation sessions are extremely expensive as you are paying for a lawyer and mediator on both sides. I come from a holistic approach of learning about your family and children first, what your individual needs and goals are, and synthesizing it into a plan that your lawyer can then write up once it's agreed upon. This can save you thousands of dollars while receiving more individualized support.
Most couples who are trying to figure out a custody arrangement need at least 6 sessions before coming to an agreement (two with each individual parent, and two sessions with both parents). Many parents transition to individual parent coaching as they navigate the next steps of solo parenting, establishing new home routines, and setting up or rearranging the home environment.
I offer two free 15 minute consults for each parent to speak with me individually and determine if I am the right fit. You can fill out the form above or email me at melissa@helpmemelissa.com to schedule a time to speak.
